Number of meeting participants has almost doubled since the year 2004.According to the "Meeting & Eventbarometer 2008" developed by the EITW (European Institute for the Meeting Industry at the Hochschule Harz (FH), University of Applied Sciences) Mecklenburg-Vorpommern climbed from position 15 to 11 of the 16 German federal states, and therewith has made the biggest jump. This positive development is even more evident looking at the absolute numbers:
Between the years 2004 and 2008 the number of meetings increased from 76,400 to 125,137 (+ 64 %). In the same time, the number of meeting participants almost doubled - from 1,915,500 to 3,759,000 participants.
"This positive development in the meeting sector goes along with the growing economy, the improved meeting structure and the increased reputation of the meeting state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern", said Mathias Löttge, president of the State tourism association.
In this context Mr Löttge refered to the Meeting & Incentivepool MeetMV, a network of 43 partners founded in the year 2006. "Surely, this is not Hamburg, Frankfurt or Berlin. But Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers the specific - meetings in castles or barns, on ships, with sea view."
In the upcoming year two of the most important German touristic events will be held in the North-East: The Germany Travel Mart, most important market for international travel buyer, 10. to 12. Mai 2009 in Rostock as well as the annual general meeting of the RDA, international Coach Tourism Federation, that will be held in Schwerin from 23.-26. April 2009, the opening weekend of the German Federal Horticultural Show (BUGA).
"The Meeting & Eventbarometer 2008" is based on an interview of more than 3,000 German meeting suppliers, more than 7,000 European meeting planners and about 1,200 experts world-wide.
